How do you know if the Turbo is working?

Point it up a steep hill at about 50 in 5th put your foot down and enjoy!
Should pull very well indeed over 2000 revs is the answer. If you are seriously in doubt disconnect the extra fuel device supply. There should be a thin pipe leading from the intercooler to the injection pump. If you disconnect this pipe the turbo will blow as normal but there is no additional fuel and so no more power. If you can't tell the difference it isn't working.

No turbo on a Xantia TD = very poor performance, eg 70 mph tops. Only way to tell a partially working one though is to use a boost gauge.

I asked myself that question too as I couldn't hear any whizzing that a normal diesel turbo gives. So I bought a new fuel filter and changed that in all of 2 minutes along with a new air filter. Then it soon started whizzing again and all was forgiven!
