106 fuel cap stuck

Post by gradeafailure »

Hi, my sister is having a bit of a problem with her '94 106 - the fuel cap seems to be stuck in the filler neck despite the fact that it appears to actually be unlocked! When the key is inserted, there is very little resistance, but it can't actually be turned. If you take the cap trim off, you can actually pull the cap towards you and the locking tabs are in the open position, but it feels like you're pulling against a spring of some sort and the cap won't actually come out.
Anyone got any advice, please?!
Cheers!

Sounds as though it's been pushed too far in, and is now almost splitting the filler hose end. You've obviously tried to ease it out by hand, have you or can you get a screw driver in one of the filler caps locking tabs and lever it out?

Cheers Stuart, will give that a try...!
Failing that, how easy is it to remove the fuel filler neck from the body? I assume it's just a matter of undoing the neck-to-body screws and detatching the fuel and breather hoses from the back of the neck?
