Multiplex ???????

Unread post by jjandrj6679 »

Hi there, I have the Pug stated below ans Ive had it for a month now and all it has brought me is stress and bad cashflow, expained in a seperate post.
I possibly have the chance of swapping it for a W reg 406 diesel estate, which I havent seen yet, so ill assume that its HDI, will it have this multipex thingy? If so what is Multipex and is it good news?
As far as I can see it looks expencive and is more than likly to go wrong, It will be used for a taxi like this one is.
If anyone would care to shed some lite on the mysteries of Multiplexing, then Im all ears, or eyes as the case may be....

don't know about the multiplex stuff, but what I do know is, don't touch the 406 with a barge pole. more problems with them, than could be fitted in the normal haynes manual.. sorry 406 owners, but this is widely known in the industry.
also see the Which? car reports, this is a big NO-NO

My Dads on his 2nd 406.The first was a HDI 90 est,GLX,X reg,2000,86k miles,no problems, only servicing. His 2nd,HDI 110 est,SE,53 reg,03,on 40k miles so far,no problems.I shall be buying that in 1 1/2 yrs time, off the company. All cars have problems, but it hasn`t put me off buying his current car.I would have brought the old one,but it was the 90 bhp HDI.My Xantia`s got 115 bhp,but the 90 would only go to about the same bhp.But the 110 will go to about 130+,so will buy that.

"Multiplexing" is the term used for Peugeot's wiring system from approximately 1999 onwards.
Do Google search as follows: "multiplex" peugeot
This will bring you all the information you will need. Hope it helps.

Thanks you lot now im realy confused.
I agree that there has always been problems with this Pug. I have been driving them since they first came out and as far as I can remember, it was never as Puggish as the 405(The last REAL Pug), They moved heavily into external suppliers instead of manufacturing them. If my memory serves me right it goes like this:-
56% Valeo
26% German
18% Peugeot & others.
So it it realy a Pug.....?
As for the reliability the two P reg ones that I drove as Taxis when they were new, were plagued with electical probems, thas was allegedly due to the 56%, but don't quote me on that. I would have thought that Pug had ironed out most of the problems by now, but from what Ive read im not sure.
So I still have to make a choice, do I stick with my S1 & 1/2 1761cc 16v petrol, with its injection probs or move onto the S11 Estate on a W plate?
Best I take it for a test ride first.
Thanks for your help all of you.

a W reg will almost definitely be multiplexed.basicaly multiplexing is for increasing comfort systems & gadgets but reducing wiring & connectors.it does this by sending lots of different info down just two wires known as the BUS.nearly every sytem in the car has its own ECU.
