2.5/2.8 deisil gearbox problems

Hello,
I am currently looking at buying a Peugeot Boxer/Citroen Relay van. I have heard about problems they have with the gearbox (particulaly the 5th gear). Does anybody know if the gearboxes can be fixed/uprated to make them more reliable?
