Fuel filter

Post by pikecrazy »

How do you take the top off the fuel filter housing to replace with a new filter ?
It is marked with arrows and a + - symbol [V]
Is just a simple twist and its off ????????
I'm presuming mine screws off , does the system need priming when a filter is replaced ?

There are different types of fuel filters fitted. Some are held by a screw in each of the four corners; others screw off with a half turn of the top, whilst others need the pipes disconnected and the rim screwed off, rather like a Kilner jar.

I don't seem to be able to remove the top off the fuel filter , it is the plastic version that has a plastic nut fixed on top.
I have tried pressing down and turning at the same time to no avail.
I'm presuming it has never been replaced before...
Please help [:(!]

Does it look like a big plastic container with a ridged top? If so the top just unscrews, but it is tight.

It the same as you describe but looks like it will snap , it is VERY tight.
Are they prone to breaking when undoing ?

I got mine undone on the Berlingo HDi with no problem. I used large water pump pliers. It's tight as the rubber sealing ring under the top is doing it's job well.
