I'm looking at the above at a bargain price of under £500.
Before I go along to have a look, are there any common issues, tests or known problems I should be aware of. I have it on good authority that this is the best place to ask the questions.
Cheers all

Which engine?
Known issues
Rear Wheels leaning in at top...rear axle wear
Head gasket/cooling system problems..blocked radiators on TD models look for signs of rusty water under bonnet. pressurisation of cooling system means Head gasket needs replacement
Heater matrix is a PITA to replace, check operation and for dry mats inside/strange smells
Sticky calipers at front, cheap fix
Clutch should be light in operation, if heavy with bite point near top of pedal travel then its worn.
The engines are pretty bombproof and will do starship mileages easily with the right maintenance, the 140 k you mention is not by any means exceptional, the volcane (I have a TD one) is a great car and well worth owning.

Hi,
I've got two volcanes. A 2.0i 8v and a 1.9i 8v. The 2.0i has got 102,000 on the clock. It's a '94 model and i've had to do:
Rear subframe mounts
Front wishbone bushes
and one or two electrical gremlins to do with the windows.
I currently do 50-60 miles a day in this and it's fine. Really smooth on the m'way. Grippy on back country roads.
The 1.9i is a '91 model with 37,000 miles and was sat at a garage for 12 months. The timing was 180 degrees out and it wouldn't rev past 3000 rpm. I got it, sorted the timing and it runs fine. The only thing done to this one is front wishbone bushes. I think this is a common problem but not expensive. This one suffers from a little piston slap when cold. I know it's got the wrong sump, and oil pump in it. I'm planning on changing these when the whether gets warm.
I've not had any problems with mine, but look at the rear wheels. If they lean in at the top, the rear axle is on it's way out and can be expensive to fix. Also check for excessive smoke. Others will be along to tell of other little probs that there are.
