Hi,
The speedo in my td volcane has 150 mph on the speedometer, I have now noticed that every other zx td I have seen has only 120 mph. Can anyone confirm this? Does this mean my speedo has been changed at some point for a 16v item?
Cheeers
ZX td goes 150mph

Heheh, I think it is just there to taunt us! Or maybe its there as a percentage error for the mad wobbling speedo needle! A bit optimistic nonetheless. So does this mean other people have the same speedo in their own td volcanes?
I have never had more than just over 120 in mine either. No revs left.[:(] At least kids can peer in through the window and be impressedb by the 241kph top speed of the beast![:D]

Thats what I use mine for mainly, and trackdays (or i was doing until I pulled it to bits last year!). In the sprint championship up here the turbo rule is only x1.4, as opposed to x1.7 in the rallying, do the charade makes it into the 0-1400cc class. Im hoping to try and set some records in that class with it. A Metro gti holds most of them. Not any ordinary one though, this one could keep up with cossies most of the way around knockhill! Think it actually doubled in weight if you filled it with fuel!
Interestingly, the rule for diesels in the championship is half the normal capacity! so our 1.9td's would be classed as 952.5cc's [:p], then add the turbo factor of 1.4, and youd be in the same class as my charade at 1333.5cc! Might be worth a bash with the old zx if the charade is playing up one day to see how it goes....[;)]

Werent the charade gti turbos 100bhp as standard? Sounds like you have doen a fair bit of modification!

Yer mrbump, I do sprints and hill climbs as well in the modified production class. My friend competed in a standard metro gti 16v last year and set new class records at a lot of places. Had the better of all the ax gt's etc that turned up. There was a mildy tuned charade at Curbourgh running in road going production which beat my friends 1380 mini.
We have the same engine rules down in the South and ive wondered about a tuned zx td but to be honest you cant get enough power out of them. One of the newer VW group diesels would do the job. Only turbo cars ive ever run against were a couple of R5 GT Turbos as they were bumped up to the 1.4-2 litre class due to the 1.4 rule but I beat them in the Visa

Yeah, gotta love that 1.4 rule in the sprints! r5's dont handle at all well anyway! Metro's do however, and have the cracking 1.4 16v k series with efi.
Doubt the charade will outhandle it, but it will definately be quicker down the straights! When it was running 160bhp, it had the following done:
Better turbo downpipe,
exhaust,
skyline gtr r32 injectors (3 of[:p])
ecu from ex rally car (Dawson auto developments)
16psi
Thats about it.
Since the uninteneded strip down (stripped a bolt at the back of the block[}:)]) It now has,
bigger turbo compressor (mazda 323),
larger t/b from mr2,
bigger intercooler,
sold ecu, planning to install Mega Squirt ecu instead
Hoping for nearer the 180bhp mark when its finished this summer.[:D]
Also tried to sort the handling for the track with bigger swaybars springs and konis[:p].

In my pre Citroen days, when I was about 21 I had a Metro GTi, the latter one with the Multipoint injection and 103bhp, had the cat removed, K&N fitted giving around 110bhp, and had Spax adjustable shocks at the front + lowered it properly by shortening the rods in the hydragas, know people who just let some pressure out but it made them bouncy.
Anyhows it was pretty damn quick and had go kart like handling...used to rip the pi** out of cars you would assume would be much quicker ie. Astra GTE's, XR2/3i's, Nova's.....had a lot of fun with that car, mmm, reaches for the autotrader!!!

Oh my friends one is outrageous. It feels like it has so much more power than 103bhp but then when you hit about 80 you start fearing for your life lol. Interesting about shortening the rods in the hydrogas units, he just let a bit of gas out and yes it lent more heh.
Mrbump, im also in a full on rebuild but of the car, not the engine, hopefully thats still fine heh, got the wiring loom in last weekend, im looking at North Weald sprint on April 10th as the first event of the season
