Ford Focus mk 1 diesel - was it a PSA engine?

Doing some research at the mo on the old style Ford Focus. It was offered with either a 1.8 or a 2.0 Turbo diesel unit. Were these PSA HDi lumps?
I know the newly released Focus has the PSA engines; question is: do the earlier ones??

I dont know, but id be intreigued (is that how you spell it) to know if it is a PSA lump, did the new 2.0l HDI mondeos (51 plate ish) have a psa lump too?

Wash your mouth out with LHM! The 1.8 TDDI was a development of the horrible Endura engine, and the 2.0 TDCI was Ford's Duratorq engine (which I think grew from the Endura as well). Some of the later Mk1s MIGHT have been fitted with 2.0 HDI engine, but I think they only go into the new Focii.

I know the 1.4 diesel in the Fiesta is a Pug / Cit HDI lump
Also the 2.7 V6 twin turbo diesel in the S type Jag is also a Pug / Cit HDI lump.
Its amazing how the salesmen dont like this being pointed out to them! lol

Fiesta/Fusion 1.4 (70hp) & 1.6 TDCi (90hp)
New Focus 1.6 (110hp)and 2.0 TDCi (136hp)
Focus C-Max 1.6 (110hp)and 2.0 TDCi (136hp)
Jaguar and Land Rover 2.7 V6 Diesel
All the above are engines developed by Ford and PSA jointly. You are best not to point out the Jag has PSA engine, when the technology transfer was in the main from Ford to PSA, not the other way. Ford were already well advanced, and had common rail engines ahead of PSA, with as pointed out the Old Focus 1.8 TDCi (1753cc) and the current Mondeo's 2.0 TDCi (115 & 130hp) engines. PSA HDi engines until the above mentioned 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 units, were still using older direct injection technology.

PSA had common rail before for did, they've had common rail since 1997 (2.0 litre HDI 90 / 110 bhp). The Ford TDCI engines (1.8 and 2.0 (113 and 128 bhp)) were reworked by PSA for Ford, from the ford TDDI engines.
The 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 136 bhp engines are made by PSA for Ford, Ford didn't have a lot of spare cash to spend on diesel R&D. Ford was behind the game in terms of diesel engines and had to get in outside help. A large proportion of PSA's cars are diesel, where as Ford sells relatively few.
"The agreements signed by PSA Peugeot Citroën and Ford Motor Company in September 1998 involve a large-scale cooperative programme covering the joint design and production of four families of common-rail, direct injection diesel engines. Specifically these are: 1.4 and 1.6 litre engines; 2.0 litre engines; a 2.7 litre V6 engine; and a new family of engines for light commercial vehicle applications."
From the PSA website, note the date of the agreement, 1998, the year after PSA launched its first common rail engine.

sorry for this but how many do you see? who buys them? was at the local Ford dealer on the week end looking at the new Focus(er!) and even the dealer said they dont sell any. [:D]

All Ford 1.8 focus diesels are built in Dagenahm and have evolved from the old Ford 1.6 idi.
The common rail and DI version both use dephi pumps. Despite being relatively low tech (8v cast iron head) IMO it out performs the psa 1.6 in every way. As far as i'm aware there has never been a 2.0 oil burning Focus
The mondeo uses a Ford built "Puma" engine in various states of tune and capacities. I do not belive either of these engines have any PSA heritage or used in any other makes other than the Jag S type.
Yes the Ford 1.4 & 1.6 are psa built and have reputation for being rattlers.
The v6 and forthcoming v8 range are collabarations between ford and psa.
The main and most noticable differences between a jag and pug v6 is the "ELF" logo on the PSA oil filler cap and the "CASTROL" on the jag.
Having driven the Jag 2.7, I can safely say it is the smoothest diesel ever. And its built in the U.K so the quality is good.

I want one!!

Maybe you´re getting confused with the Sierra. When it was launched in 1981 the diesel version was fitted with a 2.3 Pug engine. I bought one new in 1982 and it was great. The same engine could be fitted in the 504, but with a turbo. Ford was never offered the turbo version.

Although the 2.5 engine (same as 2.3 just bored out...) from the 505 was offered in the Granada with a turbo!
Noisy horrible thing that was (The engine not the car!!).

The most recent Granada/Scorpios had a VM Diesel 2.5 litre turbo diesel, same as the Rover 800 diesel, the Jeep Cherokee and the Chrysler Voyagers of that era. Its an odd engine, with separate heads for each cylinder, a chain driven camshaft and pushrods.
