Do you mean a MAF? It's a Mass Airflow Sensor, measuring the ammount of air being sucked in so the engine knows how much fuel to juice in. Find the air filter housing and it'll be attached to the rear of that with a connector on the rear.

a map sensor is a Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor. It will be wither screwed directly into the inlet manifold or (more likely) somewhere along the air inlet ducting on the engine side of the air filter.

A MAP sensor is a 'Manifold Absolute Pressure' sensor, does a similar job as described above but measures the 'Inlet Manifiold Pressure', which varies in accordance with the throttle position.

MAP sensor = manifold absolute pressure sensor.it enables the ECU (in conjunction with the inlet air temp sensor) to determine how much air is being drawn into the engine.cant remember its exact location on this model/engine but it will either be bolted directly onto the inlet manifold or it may be mounted remoteley with a small rubber pipe connecting it tho the inlet manifold.it can cause all sorts of cutting out & running problems if it gets conaminated with oil.

On my GTI the MAP sensor was integral to the ECU.
Connection to the inlet manifold was l o n g rubber tube to under driver seat

On 1.8 16V it costs about 100 EUR here. A small piece of black plastics on the inlet manifold, made by Denso (Japan). Same type on many newer PSA petrol engines. On some models, it's Magneti marelli

I needed a new MAP sensor for my Saxo. It was a case of unscrewing the old one and screwing on the new. I wish I had known thta before Citroen charged me £40. I think the part was about £40 from Citroen.

Always better to try and get the part number and go straight to the manufacuter or an agent. Bosch and magnet marelli dealers are found in the yellow pages and on the webb. You all know I saved nearly £80 by going to
