406 Coupe

Unread post by Ian Fearn »

I'm currently playing with the idea of a 406 coupe and wondering whether to look for a V6 or 2.0. I prefer the idea of the V6 and am probably more concerned with what happens if it goes wrong more than the fuel economy issue.
Anybody any thoughts on the subject or anything else i should be thinking about with regard to buying one?
Thanks in advance.

Well I dont know much about the engine but its used in quite a few peugeots and citroens so I doubt its any less reliable than the 2 litre and will certainly be a lot more fun at the expense of more trips to the petrol station.
There are 2 versions of it though, the first ones were only 197bhp and the later ones 210, not sure if this coincided with a face lift on the car as well or how to tell the difference from looking at it.

Having a 406 V6, though the sedan, i'll try to give my opinion.
If' i'm not mistake, the 210bhp version was released in 2000, features some internal engine's improvements as well as a variable admission conduit - you can see that by a small detail: tehj 194bhp has an aluminium collector and a black plastic cover on the front row of cilinders, and the 210 has a silver plastic cover (and plastic collectors, if not in mistake...).
I have the 194bhp engine, very smooth, low consumption (not a problem to you, from what i've read), and with 65.000kms it has done only regular servicing, nothing expensive at all!
The engine is found on Peugeots(607/406), Citroëns(XM/Xantia) and on Renaults (i.e. Clio V6, Avantime, etc.)
Enjoy it above all [:D]
Cheers!

All you need is a written off clio v6 with its ~250bhp odd spec one and accidentally drop it into your engine bay along with after market traction control (if it doesnt already have it) :D

Good car. I had a 98 v6 for about a year or so. It was fast, smooth and comfy.
Also It managed 100 bottles of wine in the boot and 150mph on a private French road......
a great tourer, only sold because of the fuel economy....and my heavy right foot.
In my opinon the 406 coupe is a great car, best in v6 guise if you can affort it.
If I could only affort the 2.2 hdi version.
Go on get one !
