David.
Don't know if this will help, but the 205 has a problem with the bumper bolts letting water in and soaking the rear seat. I don't know if they are the same but it may be worth a look.

On my old 405 it was the seals on the lights. Fit new seals. Do not use silicone sealant as this produces water as it cures, which then remains trapped in the join and creates merry hell corrosion wise.

Corrision isnt a problem on 405s as there where galvinised.
The only time you will get rust is when the protective coating is damaged or accident damage to the body is repaired poorly.

Were 205s galvanised too? I have often wondered how they escape rust so well. A scrappie once told me the seams were so tightly welded it kept rust at bay.

They were actually galvanealed, which means the sheet metal stock the panels were pressed from was manufactured with a thin zinc coating (microns thick). Hence areas such as the edge of panels etc where they were pressed from the sheet are theoretically more vulnerable, such as panel edges around the light apetures etc.

No the process Peugeot used at the time isnt that one.
The whole 405 body shell when assembled was first cleaned in an acid bath & then after some water rinses was dipped in a tank of molton Zinc & an electrical current is used to stick the thin layer of Zinc to the body shell.
Now its cheaper to buy rolls of steel already galvenised & punch the shapes out of that.

Finally got round to looking at this.Don't think water is going in around lamp cluster. There seems to be a concealed water channell in the rubber rear window surround down the edge.Cleaned this out and failed to produce leak when I tried it.

Hi
Do you have a boot spoiler fitted?
Water can get in through the 4 holes under the spoiler if the sealent shrinks.
