HELP, I don´t want my ZX to die

Post by oscarloco »

I took my ZX to a local Citroen specialist for a routine timing belt change.
Next day they called me telling me the car won't start. [xx(]
It´s been almost a week and the car won' start. They say the marks have been aligned and all is according to the manual and still won't start. There is spark, there is injection pulse but there isn't compression.
The car was fine before that. I drove it to the shop myself and I didn't notice any lack of power or anything strange.
Any clues of what it might be?

Rotating vibration damper putting alignment hole in crank pulley out of alignment? Mind you a "Citroën specialist" should know all about that!

Even in a dealer/garage I'm sure there was a red face or two when they realised they had to phone you to tell you they'd knackered your motor.

Total incompetence, maybe? [}:)] This really beggars belief!

Maybe I'm naive, but surely if the car went in running fine, it is their *obligation* to ensure it is returned to you in working condition without extra cost; after all, it can only be their idiocy which has caused the problem?

Hmmm... Guatemala ay, how specialised is a Citroen specialist going to be out there, not very it seems going by what this unfortunate poster is now going through.
Tell them to ignore totaly the timing hole in the crankshaft pulley if its the type with the rubber ring around it, it can only be relied on when its new and unused.

Well, this "specialist" it´s supposed to be very good at Porches, Mercedes, Audis and Citroens. The owner is a Porsche mechanic school graduate. So one would assume that he is good. NOT.
And of course I'm not gonna pay anything else than the $100 for the timing belt replacement and the cost of a new engine mount that was damaged.
I've spoken with the assistant and the owner and they always apologize and tell me the car will come out fine.
I hope the car is home for Christmas!

Maybe they'll lend you a Porsche while they're buggering about with your ZX - that would be what I call good customer relations!

Well, the "speciallist" called me yesterday telling me that he had lifted the cylinder head and discovered what happened: he bent the four exhaust valves.
At least he admitted his mistake and told me that he will be fixing it at no cost.
By the tone of his voice, I assume his face was RED. He told me there was no excuse, that it had been an error.
So I will be spending Christmas with no car :(

Even professionals make mistakes [:(]
Honestly - I'd say this garage is worth future jobs - because they admitted their mistake. That is one fine - and very rare - quality of garages these days.

They must have some form of service-loan car they could let you have over Christmas - it must be worth asking at least?
