Noisy Rack

My XTD is making a noise each time I turn the steering wheel. I have changed tie rods and some other bit. The steering improved but there is still some minor clunking coming from the steering. The mechanics here says that the steering rack need to be change.Can the steering rack be serviced. Need youe help guys.

I think this may be a time for a service exchange unit. Some adjustment is possible but not one for the average DIY job I think. R

The steering rack was dismantled and both the rack and pinion was stripped and clean of grease and gunk. There was no obvious wear and the whole thing was regreased and installed.
The steering is now back to its smooth ways.What the mechanics found apart from the dirty rack was that the rubber bellow protecting the rack was not attached properly which may have cause dirt and water to get into it. Lesson learn for me.
