Removing Radio cassette with Rad/cd

Post by pigout »

HELP!
How do you remove the radio from the dash of a 306?
Is it just a case of connecting a kenwood radio/cd to existing wiring and sticking on a new cover from halfords which costs £13 or is it more complicated. My kids think i am a miserable pig and should leave it into halfords to fit.

Whatever you do, I wouldn't leave it to the staff at Halfrauds to do ANYTHING on your car.
To get the standard radio out of a 306 there are a couple of "special" tools that you need to either make, or beg/borrow/steal from a pug dealer, or a radio specialist place. The slot in under the radio and relase it. The bit that Halfrauds sell is a facia adapter to allow a standard DIN size radio to fit and not look appalingly bad with big holes in the dashboard. Look elsewhere and these are usually available for under a tenner.

The hardest part is getting the original stereo out (without damaging the unit or the dashboard), the security code had been tripped when I bought my car and the dealer removed it to find out the code. It was a Clarion unit, from memory the clips seemed to be on the bottom around an inch in from each side. You try pocking around with a flat knife or an old set of feeler gauges. But personally I would either try and get the proper tool or pay someone to remove it.
I’ve fitted a couple of Sony units myself with aid of a facia adapter. The Sony units plugged straight into the two block connectors and took about a minute to install. I think it may depend on the age of your car as to whether you have the standard connectors, mine is a 98.

Chances are it will have ISO connectors. If you have stalk controls then there will be complications if you want to reatain them. Interface units are a bit pricey. A good auto audio suppliers will have the tools for removal.

I've fitted a Kenwood unit to a phase 1 306. The wiring fits straight in and it's a pretty simple operation. It's also worth trying it without buying the fascia adapter as acutually it make pretty little difference.

I have a Kenwood unit in my 306 and found that the dash adapter was'nt required as the unit went straight in.
