406 1.9TD (R Reg) Glow Plugs

Post by Smurf »

[?] My otherwise troubleless 406 1.9 TD has trouble starting in the cold. Sometimes 4 turns. Starts fine when warmor when the air temp is above 7°C.
I am fairly sure that it is the glow plugs. I have changed the two easy ones on the RH side of the engine but does any one know an easy way of changing the ones behind the fuel pump without it's removal please. Also how does the top air duct that dissappears behind the engine come out?

There isn't an easy way to do the end plug. The deep socket won't go on and if you use an OE spanner, you'll round off the corners. Best way is to use a spare ring spanner, shortened. It's then possible to use leverage at an angle.

Thanks for that John. I will give it a go.
I also thought about getting a set of ratchet swivel end ring spanners. They might work.
I will let you know. Might have to wait untill the Christmas break.
