The STOP lamp has not been trying to tell you a tale ?
The first thing to check is the LHM oil level, but a low level should bring on the STOP lamp.
I'd say a slipping drivebelt to the pump would do this. This would commonly be heard as a sqeaking, but could be hidden by the diesel clatter from the engine.
Try have the car parked, then open the bonnet and listen for any common drivebelt sounds when an assistant is turning the wheels.
Any history on LHM oil change & filter cleaning ?

Sometimes it helps to see if a belt is slipping if you put a chalk (or paint) mark on both the belt and pulley. Then with luck you can see if the 2 marks move in relation to each other. You may need to get someone else to turn the wheel to put it under load.
