Would a late 405 TD engine fit straight into my 1998 406 TD or isn't life that simple?
Thanks

If your talking 1905cc XUDs then it should be easy.
The intercooler might need a slight adjustment.
If you have keypad imobilisers on both cars, Set both to the same code before starting work.
Or you can just swop the fuel pumps around.
I take it you already have a 405TD for the transplant?
The same 1905cc XUD is also fitted in the 306, Citroen Xantia, ZX & some of the PSA vans too if your looking for a doner car.

Thanks for all the replies but Wednesday evening had a disaster on the M3. Alternator belt started to shred and moved across pulleys into cam belt. This knocked out the timing and you can guess the rest. As the cars done 200k and already had a water leak into the oil, I've cut my losses and this morning bought a complete 406 TD engine (only 37K allegedly but with 6 month guarantee) via a company sourced through Findapart.com.
Cheers
