xm towbar

Post by mark bodsworth »

Hi all
I have just had a citroen towbar fitted to my s2 xm saloon by my specialist (woodlinkin, derby). The problem is with the bumper, it seems to be under a lot of strain and isnt up fully where the body starts. This is down to a lack of room between the flange at the bottom of the bumper and the towbar. The garage have said there is nothing they can do to sort this, but Citroen reccomend removing the flange all together - revealing the black towbar frame. Has anybody done this? does the car look strange with this piece of the bumper removed?
cheers mark

Mark, I think you should consider whether the bar is in fact correctly fitted. The bar on my own S2 XM Estate is behind the lower edge and the bar extension for the ball drops below and comes up around the lip.
Different bars have different fitting styles and methods but I am not aware of one that requires this degree of surgery to the car.
Can you identify the bar manufacturer at all? If so contact the maker and see what they say about the fitting. Robin

When I put the towbar on my s2 xm saloon I cut a small piece of the flange, just enough for the towbar to fit through. Looks pretty good. You could probably get a newer type towbar for the xm though (swan-neck type thing) which comes all they way around the bumper.

Hi,
On my S2 XM saloon the towbar cross member is behind the rear apron. The only problem with mine was that the twin exhaust outlets (V6 24v) fouled the cross member. Cured by sawing v shaped pieces out of the underside of each pipe and bending it downwards.
