Parking brake crash - XM estate

Post by Robin »

I know if this is all I have to worry about then go away - But.
When I release the parking brake on the XM, it just crashes very noisily against itself. I would have expected there to be a stop or a cushion of some description to stop the pedal with less trauma. Can anyone advise me if this is normal or do I a job to do here? Typically my HBOL has no mention or diagram to consider. Robin

Chose series 1 or series 2 from the link below:
http://pepon1.free.fr/CITROEN%20XM_fich ... ALOGUE.htm
When the pdf has opened, click on "Frein et transmission"
It will download the english parts catalogue (microfisch).
My parking brakes (both series 1 and 2) always release with a hard "dunk", but they are L.H. drive and the construction apears entirely different on the R.H. drive version if you look at he fisch drawings.
I suspect that a rubber stop has become dislodged somewhere.

Put your foot on the parking brake pedal, release the lock and let the pedal up slowly.

Jim, how do you do this on hill starts - or have you got an extra leg!

robin, get a torch and have a look where the crash noise is coming from.it happened on mine ,the linkage was hitting the alluminium heater pipes right up under the dash.result, hole in pipe-new pipe and that is one replacement job you really don't want to do with the ehgine in situ.

Ouch, you can guess what my priority is going to be once released from the custody of the office!
Many thanks Derek for the advice. Robin
