206 1.6 16v head gasket

Post by DarrenB »

Hi all
Has anyone had the head gasket leak on the 1.6 16v engine. It has only done 33000 miles and its leaking already? Obviously its just out of the warranty now as well. Its leaking on the right front of the head. Just wandering if its happened to others or am I just unlucky??

do you know if its the 120 bhp model? (106 gti/saxo vts engine) if it is i had it go on my old 98 vts, around 45k miles, had it done and it was as good as new till i sold her on. (87k miles!) can't remember how much it cost tho. i do remember having an orbital quote from citroen, took it to my local garage, as long as they have a good reputation u should be ok. or u could do it urself?[;)]

Hi
Im very sorry to tell you a leaking head gasket is very comman on this engine.
A Peugeot technician I know says for every 10 that come in for a service at the Peugeot dealership where he works, About 7 have a leaking head gasket!

Yes i have found in a couple places now that this is more common than I first thought. Of course our car is out of its warranty now so peugeot do not really want to know about it so we are left to pay for it.
It is a good warning for anyone else with this engine. Check it very carefully along the head especially the front right hand side. If you find any evidence of it leaking then let peugeot know quick if you are still in warranty. At least they will have to fix it then.
Our local dealer said that there is no modified gasket, so does that mean it will last another 30000 miles !!!!
Surely there must be some underlying fault with the head or gasket with these engines?
I am seriously not impressed.
