406 V6 is dead

Post by whillis »

Hi Guys
My 406 v6 on a p plate has given up on me, i was on a long run with it when I heard a bang from the engine and the engine cut out.when trying to restart the engine is sounds like the belt has snapped, but I have removed the oil cap and I can see one of the camshafts turning when the engine is turned over. When trying to start the engine it won't even try and it sounds very dry as if it had no oil in, but it has?
Has any one had this befor? or are there any common fault like this??
I have heard somone mention that the camshafts are common to snap on these, is this true? I don't belive him!!
Hope somone has some idea's
Best regards to you all!!

from the loud bang you describe and the dry sounding engine, is it possible that the oil pump has given up the ghost? I'm not sure about the V6, put most pug/cit engines have chain driven oil pumps, so mebbe it was the chain snapping. Have you checked to see if both cams are turning as well?
