1.9D water pump & cam belt

Post by Robin »

OK, I know I should have done this anyway. Had the belt changed 2k miles ago at 120k. Within ten days the water pump gave way. By leaving the pressure cap off it lasted until I could get it back to the garage.
The lesson is to replace the pump regardless at the second belt change. It is after all only around £30 or so. Same goes for the tension pulley.
I am now £200 worse off.[:(!]

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. What made you think you'd needn't chagne the pump with the belt change at 120K?

Stuart, because I never thought of it at the time and it didn't leak either. R.

Only joking mate. I must agree with you things like the water pump don't always spring to mind as they never seemed to be mentioned in the service schedule or owners hand book. I too have had this very same thing happedn but o an old VX Astra 1.7 diesel. Mind the cost was only another £50 all in.
