2.2 HDI poor idle when cold

Post by hswift »

What mechanism does the 2.2 HDI use to keep the engine ticking over when cold? At anything less than 10 degrees outside, my C5 always starts up first time, but 200 yards down the road, when sitting at traffic lights, the engine hunts a little. I can see no evidence that the revs are being kept high as the engine is warming up.

Does anyone know what the cold start mechanism is for these 2.2HDI engines? Mine still doesn't like idling when it's cold and sometimes even stalls as I change from reverse to to first when backing out of the drive.
Don't think It'll be glowplug related - apparently they don't kick in before 0 degrees.
Thanks,

its entirely controlled by the injection ECU based on info mainly from the coolant temp sensor.

Thanks for that, Wheeler. Is the temp sensor easily recognisable? I might try swapping it as an attempt at a quick fix.
