ZX drum brakes

Post by dave215 »

My handbrake cable has snapped on my Citroen ZX (1997). As tthey are drum brakes how are the drum brake covers held to the backplate, is it a centre nut or a screww on the cover. Thanks in advance Dave

It is a big nut on the centre shaft locked in place by knocking soft end in keyway on shaft. The drum comes away with the bearings. You need to remove a metal cap to get at it.

And you'll need plenty of leverage to undo it. It's torqued to around 160lbs.

30 or 32 I seem to recall. Best to buy two new ones anyway and find out what size they are when you buy them.
