Megane Radio/cd changer

Hi,
My daughter has a 'Y' plate megane and is asking about fitting a CD changer.
I am nominated to help and need some information please:
1. I know I will need to check the current model number of the head unit - it is a 'list' ? model with a separate display. How is this removed form the facia - I am told there is one hole on each side of tthe fornt of the head unit, what do I need to remove this unit?
2. Where is the factory fit CD changer fixed - I suspect the left side of the boot fairly close to the speaker shelf - is this correct?
any other information which might be useful?

It would help if you had the model of head unit true! It is likely that the head unit is removed by inserting special tool MS 1411 (two keys) into holes at bottom corners of the head unit until they click. The head unit can then be pulled out. The listed place for a changer is on the right hand side of boot. Some can fit in the dash. If you get the model of the head unit I can give you more info including connections.

When you take out the head unit double check it ain't a CD changer complatible one. If CD compatible it will have 2 large plugs and 2 small plugs. One of the small plugs is for the display the other for the CD. If it is a CD head unit you'll need the cd cable (£20 from Renault) and a changer (£20 off E-bay) To wire in is about an hours work but saves messing with a new head unit.

Are these the same as - or similar to - the normal din removal keys, but only using one leg? Can any otther 'fabricated' tool do this job? Where is the lock; that is do i press up, down, left or right into the holes to release the head unit?
Sorry for the questions, I am 70 miles away from the car and need to know what I face when I arrive there.

That is what I am hoping - that the existing head unit is compatible and can be used - but I won't know until I get the unit out to id the plugs/unit number. I'll come back when I get that far - won't be until next weekend.

I`ve use a long thin electriction(?)screwdriver with the end cut off to release the stereos.Has worked on most cars.

Hi John, I missed your reply for some reason (going blind with old age!). The release tools look different to the normal twin prong type. Apparently you have to use them the right way up. They click into place and then you pull out the unit. Having not used them I can only tell you that much as I am going by the Renault manual. It is quite possiblr that you can make do (Renault will naturally want to sell you the official tool). Auto audio stores should have something to fit if an adapted screwdriver doesn't work.
