XM Heater Blower
XM 98 SX non aircon heater blower not working. Pre-failure symptons were delay in motor starting for a few seconds after lever set, then it kicked in. Sadly it no longer wants to start. Removed motor and no apparent damage; tried scrap replacement without success. Fuses seem ok. Any clues?

There is also a resistor hooked up for the heater blower, maybe thats dead? Have you checked that the reolacement is fine and working ok?

Problem with the control slider/knob contacts?

Can I get access without taking the steering wheel off (as per Haynes?)

check the output transistors in the heater control module,it is quite common for one of these to fail.they are easily obtainable from maplin and easy to fit.they can be checked with a voltmeter.the cost of replacing them is only a couple of pounds compared to the price of a new module.

Thanks - is this the module on the blower unit, and if so are they on the underside of the PCB?

I believe the Xm uses resistors to vary the blower speed instead of transistors. They are located on the blower unit, on the PCB. While you have the motor out, also check the brushes. My blower had been sort of stuttering for the past few months, took it out and found the brushes to be very thin. Used two little pieces of wood to increase the spring pressure on the brushes as a temp fix, still working well.
