Xantia 'K' Diagnostic Light

Post by Richard Gallagher »

Something I have just discovered with my 2.0 Xantia, is that when a fault is recorded in the engine managment ECU, the 'K' light is the last light to extinguish, a second or two later than the others.
However, when no fault is recorded the light goes out as soon as the engine starts.
At present, this car has an intermittant fault with the crankshaft sensor wiring which gets logged within the ECU as a fault code. I haven't had time to sort the problem out due to a DIY bathroom fitment, so from time to time I have used my Sykes code reader to clear the ECU memory.
Being aware of this 'K' light 'trait' may prove useful for those who do not have a code reader and were wondering whether fault codes are logged within the ECU of their cars, possibly saving upwards of £30 on a wasted 'code reading'.
