Where is the EGR valve? (1.8 16v)

Post by LeFrog »

I'm trying to find the EGR valve on my XU7JP4 and when I've found it, I want to test its operation.
Assistance on location and testing would be most appreciated.

If your engine has one it will be on the inlet manifold.

Sorry mate but I don't think your car has one. I've had a good look around my little 1.6 VTR and had a good long read of the haynes manual. All the manual says about EGR vaves is to do with diesel models. As for the petrol engines it goes on to talk about crank case emmission control, carbon cannister and the cat conveter. I quote ' all diesel engines are fitted with an ERG system to further reduce exhaust emmissions' so it looks like yours and mine don't have EGR valves.

That is what I reckoned too. It should have a MAP sensor though.

some of the later versions of the 1.8 16v have EGR valves found on the picasso & C5 but a 2000 model defo wont have.

Thank you knowledgable people. I'll have to play with the MAP sensor instead. :-) (If I can get it off and on again without taking the manifold off)
