Stiff Accelerator on 98 Xsara TD

Unread post by brian k »

Hi, I'm wondering how to tackle a stiff accelerator on my Xsara. It stiffened up so gradually that I didn't notice until my wife
a: complemented me on the size of my right calf, but said that it didn't match my left, and
b: tried it myself whilst thinking about it, and really knew what she meant! STIFF
The diesel pump end of the linkage moves freely under finger pressure, the cable moves smoothly in and out with no noticeable significant resistance when pushed at the pump end.
I have unclipped the cable from the pedal, and the pedal moves easily. Join it back up again and it's stiff.
Any ideas please?
If the cable needs changing, there aren't listed in the GSF online database, and secondly is there an easy/quick way to change it without removing the dash, rear wheels and bumper? (meant to be a joke, I know that you don't need to remove the dash)

Possibly the cable (if it is stranded) has broken strands somewhere so it can not pull a load. Common problem with bike derailleurs. Now you will tell me it is a solid cable!

No chance of removing it from the car and putting some light oil down it?
