How many miles do you get out of your Xantia?

Post by ripsaw82 »

Just wondering how many miles other Xantia owners get out of a full tank. I take it all Xantia models have the same 65L tank?
I get 450+ miles most of the time out of my 2.0i 8V , which seems quite good to me.

Afraid I don't generally run to the bottom of the tank, unless I'm desperate (though I did once make it right through half of France to Andorra for diesel during one of their strikes). I get about 46mpg out of my 97 TD saloon, and about 47mpg out of the HDi Estate. The TD saloon used to do better, but a change from low-rolling-resistance Michelin Energys to sticky Goodyears seems to have cost about 2-3mpg. Which as far as I'm concerned is a price well worth paying for a car that doesn't emulate a cat on wet lino (or a wet cat on lino, which is what I'm more often faced with in an English winter... :-)). I kinda presume that the HDi Estate would do 50mpg if I put crap tyres on it.
Interestingly (!), my old 94 Xantia TD used to do about 42-43mpg. The 97 model (with the electronic gubbins on the pump) is significantly better. I had 'em both from new and drive 'em pretty much the same, so clearly something got improved in the engine in the interim.

OK guys get your hankies ready for the Activa sob-story.
I gave up on the calculations a couple of years back and now just fill-her-up to the top and run until close to empty - so I judge consumption by miles per fill.
On a good day I can get to over 300 miles before the wee orange light appears.
Around town it's about 220.
All donations gratefully accepted.

My old Xantia 2.0i 8V auto would get about 22-24mpg in town, 27-29mpg cruising up the A1 at 70+mph, and the best ever was 33mpg @ 65mph for 300 miles up the motorway. So usually anywhere between 270-330 miles from brimful until the light came on.

On my 1.9TD the record is 670, but I then managed to put in 69 litres into the 65 litre tank.
On the 2.0 16V I get about 500.
A CT Turbo estate I had last year would make 450.

My 1.8 16V turns in somewhere around 37-38 on long motorway journeys, 34-ish in normal use. The furthest I've ever dared to push it on a tankful of 95 octane was 530 miles, which was in France, while also laden to the gunwales with stuff. Slightly more miles on 98 octane, I notice, and it's much zippier too.

Got 65 mpg on the motorway once because of no money or cards DOH! but my god was it boring (and dangerous) average between 36-42 at the moment, seems a bit cheaper with the occasional bit of veg oil as well to spread the dino diesel out a bit nore as well[}:)]

My 2.1 Xantia estate. From brim full to brim full does 42mpg unless the caravan is on the back when it drops to a disappointing 28mpg. But have you checked the accuracy of your speedo/mileometer? I've checked mine against the rev counter at 27.3mph/1000rpm, and also against Microsoft Autoroute 2004 measurements, and both confirm an inaccuracy of 5%. Surely then it follows that the fuel consumption figure is also inaccurate.

My 3.0 V6 typically gets 420 miles before I fill it. Mostly motorway driving as fast as is socially acceptable (I have measured 27 - 32 MPG).
Note that the Xantia tank is actually 65 litres before the light comes on and then another 6 litres. I once squeezed 71.25 litres into my previous Xantia 2.0 8V which used about as much fuel as the V6!

Xantia 2.0HDi got really economical after ECU remap.
City and road driving: Usually 600 miles.
Only road: Never less than 700 miles. Usually around 750 miles. One time did 780 miles. Calm driving, of course.

7.4 - 7.8 l/100km during summer (mixed drive) and 8.0 - 8.6 l/100km during cold winter (also mixed drive.) Driving on 98 octane petrol.

Forgot to mention that with full tank usually drive 760 - 800 km during summer and 690 - 740 km during winter.
I'm preparing to experience something totally different regarding consumption in several weeks with small HDi in C3.
