Smoke?

Post by amjake »

Hi All
and now for my 2nd post!
1996 405 TD Est, 175000 full service history, goes like a dream but!
Daytime accelerate from junction/lights etc no smoke but at night there always seems to be clouds of smoke on the same junctions/lights etc. made visible by following cars h/lamps
No oil loss, no coolant/water loss, is it a condensation thing or I just cant see the smoke during the day?
On recent MOT the guy said car is well serviced etc and the emmissions tests were excellent.
Any ideas?

It is a well known phenomenon with diesels. It is basically the principle on which smoke testers are based. Nothing to worry about.

Hi Jake
It's just the headlights picking up the smoke. My Berlingo produces no smoke at all in daylight but the night brings on a haze under power like the Flying Scotsman! Don't worry, it's normal[:D]

I notice the same thing. Am running a 106 1.5D. You just can't see the smoke during the day. I once noticed it during the day when the sun was at a low angle, like car headlights.

Its simply the exhaust particulates, which only show up under artifical light.
