Hi,
Basically, the ignition barrel on my ZX is stuck, and I can't get the key in more than about 3-4mm. The steering lock is on too.
I've just taken the top and bottom steering column covers off, and had a look at the barrel, but I can't get it out as I can't get the key into the lock. I also can't tell if I'm pressing the release tag in properly or not, as I can't really tell.
Hope someone can offer some advice on how to get the barrel out...
Thanks.

Hi,
I had a similar situation on my Visa, could not get the key into the barrel, "tumbler pins dropped into the key slot.
The ZX possibly similar in design.
It happened while at a garden centre, and not having any tools with me I contacted the AA.
They had to break out the barrel to enable the pip to be pushed in, so the end result was another lock.
Best of luck

Basically you need the key to release the barrel.
Only other option is violent tampering.
You should try clear the obstacle that prevents the key getting in.
Commonly it's one of the small code tumblers that have come out - blocking the key entry.
First spray the key entry well with some lubricant, then try push the tumbler into place using a large paperclip or similar.
Then use a tiny paperclip (or small gauge steel wire) to try hold the tumbler in place while you insert the key. It's fiddling & easy that does it. The key will at some point hold the tumbler and then you can withdraw the steelwire - pushing the key home.
I've tried it on my BX. It was not that bad - within 10min's or so fiddling the key was homed and the ignition lock could be operated.
Remember : DO NOT remove the key again - until you positively have remedies for repair [8D]
