Xantia front door speakers

Unread post by macaroni »

Hi,
can anyone tell me what size the door speakers are in a 6 speaker setup in a Xantia?
Can anyone recommend a decent upgrade to these speakers?
Cheers,

According to the owners handbook, 165mm front door, 130 mm rear door.

Cheers for that. I wonder if 170mm speakers will fit...I can't find any 165mm speakers.

They do. I got some to go on my sony head unit but they were awful better sound but no bass whatsoever. I put the originals back in and all was well. The speakers were good quality speaker but they didn't like running off the head unit. I think they would have suited an amp. So get some GOOD advice from a local independant.

One of the problems you are going to find is that the standard radio cass is relatively low power, better quality speakers tend to be less efficient so need more power, the other problem is that a door does not make a very good enclosure for a speaker. I've not used them recently but Maplin used to sell some good units.

I have an aftermarket stereo. A fairly old Denon unit that puts out 30W max power. I guess this is still not really enough.

whats wrong with the standard ones?? my mothers are really quite good - for factory, she is a past master at blowing up speakers, her record being 3 in 5 days! but the xantia are still going strong.
They rattle the cassette boxes in the door with no problems - is that the most anoying sound in the world?? Is gotta be right up there with tapping!

Nothing, specifically, is wrong with the standard ones, but I thought a better, aftermarket, set would improve things further.
I like to have a stereo that will go too loud for my liking before it distorts and, currently, I get distortion way before it gets too loud.

there's a formula to turn peak power into RMS which I cant remember but 30w peak is probably about 7.5w RMS, without going mad a 25 or 30 w RMS amp will mean not so much louder but less distorted sounds, an overloaded amp puts out loads of nasty harmonic distortion and some bits will be virtual square waves which are very bad news for all but the toughest speakers.

I must say that out of all the cars i`ve had,the system in my Xantia is the best. Its the only one i`ve never touched.I can turn it up really loud with no probs at all.Nice & bassey, very clear.(i have 6 speakers)
I once had a Ford Sierra Sapphire off my mum. From brand new the stereo was always very good. When i got it,the speakers would distort. On closer inspection, the speaker cones had become torn & ripped, old age i spose. That maybe why yours are naff.
