Indeed it is Steve, it contains a quantity of sulphur... Another good lubricant...
Sulphur is very good at neutralising mercury spills from what I recall. The engineer chucked sulphur all over the test bed office at Norton when a manometer got broken

Sulphur or mercury Alasdair?

When the move to Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) was made, there were problems with some older injection pumps seizing; they relied on the high'ish sulphur content of the fuel for lubrication.

I believe modern ULSD has some lubricity additives now for that very reason...

If you amalgamate sulphur, nitrogen and silver you'll definitely get a snag!! :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Mercury, fuming nitric acid and red fuming sulphuric acid can be interesting too.

Back home now after the most incredible few days away on the utterly superb September Shuffle :D

Happily, I found my house to be completely unscathed after the great September flood was reported to have submerged most of Paggers and allegedly got close to my house; it almost reached the end of my road! Even my garage escaped; going on the topology of my drive and the sheer heaviness of the rain I did expect some ingress under the doors but none at all :D Not only that, I found my garage doors had been painted in my absence! Done by my neighbours in a deal agreed about a year ago!!!

Our local Facebook group do seem slightly guilty of over-egging the severity of the great 2024 Paggers Flood judging from what I saw during a stroll around the town last evening...

Maybe I've lived here so long I've got used to seeing the town flooding to much the same extent as it did this September every year for the past 40 or so years. It's what tends to happen after very heavy rain when you have two large rivers meeting at a confluence just to the east of the town centre...

First job, after parkrun, is to do Strawberry's driveshaft...

After parkrun and getting some domestic stuff done - always a load when I've been away for a few day, I could crack on with a bit of Strawberry flavoured activity :D

I've rebooted her spare driveshaft...
Grease, beautiful grease...
Grease, beautiful grease...
And all done with the end of the can peened over...

I've given the underside of the car a good clean and got rid of all the old grease that sprayed out of the old, damaged boot...

I'll swap driveshafts tomorrow after Junior parkrun...

It's good to be back playing cars again :D

I was a brilliant weekend  Two absolutely lovely parkruns involving the splashing through puddles :D I could have avoided them easily but where's the fun in that?

Sometimes I do think I belong to parkrun

After a very noisy, lively and fun Junior parkrun I cracked on with replacing Strawberry's driveshaft :)

It's an easy enough job in an AX although the hub nut was biblically tight... An extended breaker bar was needed...

I carefully drained the gearbox oil as I guessed it was recent'ish as that driveshaft was not that old. It ran out perfectly clean and clear so I reused it...

Likewise, the shaft oil seal was not leaking and looked in fairy new condition so this time I felt no need to swap it...

The boot on the old driveshaft was well split!

Inserting the newly rebooted shaft I saw how this may have happened as if the shaft is not adequately supported, the inner joint can move to an extreme angle and stress the boot.

The split boot made a right old mess and some time was spent cleaning it up...

Interesting to note this joint was not filled with moly grease. Looks like just ordinary grease. Maybe a cheap bargain-basement driveshaft or a cheaply reconditioned one? Moly grease is essential in this sort of joint and if I refurbish this shaft I'll also check what grease is in the outer joint... I suspect the wrong stuff...

All seems good during a short test drive and automotive continence in all respects appears to have been restored :)

I'm now properly back in my traditional happy places and continuing to feel really good after my little holiday :D It did me good!
