I've checked the spare driveshaft I have for potential use on Strawberry. It's in good condition and just needs a boot and reassembly. The boot is a partly a metal cylinder and a rubber bit on the end...

I've also popped out the distributor and removed the O Ring ready to source a replacement - I don't have one in stock...

Bluebell is now enjoying a session under the carport.

The carport has elicited some very favourable comments from all my neighbours

Saw this just 2 minutes too late Mick! Just ordered a couple, along with a couple of CV boot kits...

Size is 37mm ID x 3mm Cross Section...

Interestingly I only have 36mm x 3.5 or 38mm x 3.5 from my stock set but I would think the 36 x 3.5 would have done the job!! Got CV boots too

Fingers crossed, Strawberry now has an oil-tight distributor again...

Mick lent me an O Ring yesterday so that I could 'select on test' the best fit... His was a 35mm ID x 3.5mm Cross-Section. It fitted beautifully snugly:

Unfortunately, it was a bit too thick to actually allow the distributor boss to slide back into its housing in the cylinder head

Just about the time I found this out, the postman delivered the O Rings I'd ordered via the 'bay...

The 37mm ID x 3mm CS was a good fit and seems to have done the job. Time will tell...

I'll return the unused O Ring when I next see you Mick

I've also written and submitted my November Citroenian column to the editor (way ahead of the deadline!) so with that done, all decks are now clear to enjoy a very special weekend and then the September Shuffle with absolutely no distractions

When I got home from the New Forest, I was pleased to see my new CV boots had arrived

Today I've trial fitted the boot kit to the shaft and all is good For a fiver each, those kits were the bargain of the century...

I thought at first there was no grease with them but I found it hiding in the bottom of the box... Before I found it, I checked to see if there was anything magically special about CV grease and if Castrol Moly Grease, of which I have loads, would be suitable. My research suggests CV grease is generally just ordinary moly grease* and any good quality moly grease will do, especially for inner tulip/tri-ax joints as these are...

It was interesting to read up on how moly grease works and why it's good for CV joints but not so good for wheel bearings...

Work is now at and end as I have a birthday party to attend this afternoon

* No doubt for some joints of a special nature on very high performance cars, some more exotic grease is needed but not, it seems, for small AX joints...

Indeed it is Steve, it contains a quantity of sulphur... Another good lubricant...
