That's the trouble with generic scanners - you really need a dedicated scanner like a Lexia to get accurate results

Steering rack is IN !....struggles with the heat shield (get it in first, tucked up tight to the exhaust or it is a pain !..it was for me )
Long spanners are a pain, get a set of stubby ones to avoid the 1/20th of a turn game.
Inset the main pressure pipe into the ram body first as the return one gets in the way a bit when tightening and is hard to insert into/compress the seal/get the thread started.

Also rebuilt the strut with a new piston, after a very close inspection and a good clean up I have decided to reuse the strut top as the internal rubber is in good shape with the corrosion limited to the outer mounting plate and its covering "rubber gasket". This will be protected for the future with copious amounts of Bilt & Hamber underseal. The thin rubber covering (engine bay side) which also has degraded will also be covered but with a layer of black PU sealant/adhesive as that has also been cleaned up with a wire wheel/de-rusted but I do not wish to use underseal where hands might go later.

Additionally the new bearing is now in the hub carrier, cleaned, de-rusted with a wire wheel and chemicals/painted with zinc then black.

Moving on....

......and ALL was good

When the rack was reinserted I noticed that the handbrake cable was not following the correct pathway....it was in fact rubbing on the rack pressure pipes....so like a good diligent Citroen owner I put it into the correct path and guides.
AND......All was good.

WRONG.......... today I found out why....the cable fitted is 2inches short !...BU@@ER = other bu@@ers cars !

I'm wondering if it's the wrong cable Alasdair - it might be a repurposed (shorter) LH one mis-routed to be used (bodged) on the RH side...

I'm assuming here, having not seen the reassembly or the cable routing, you're talking of the RH one...

Yes Jim,,,,Right side...... I really should have checked but as the caliper was off, hub removed etc etc etc....I just did not put 2+2 together at the time.

A tad annoying as they are hardly expensive parts so not really worth the bodge.

One great thing is the cables are an absolute joy to replace... It looks like a job full of aggro but is so easy it makes you wonder why
