I wish! That's how much we have to pay the organiser for the privilege of a day of what most sane people and non-runners see as <insert your favourite method of torture>

We do get well looked after with lots of food and drink on offer along the course :) And some amazingly beautiful scenery :D

Actually, for me, as I also volunteer at other Big Bear events (I'll be doing so on the 20th April) I get free or reduced entry into subsequent events...

MattBLancs wrote: 28 Mar 2023, 16:25 If I jumble all mentioned in your post up and turn it into

"Forty mile drive in a classic car stopping at pubs along the tow path on the way" = much more up my street!
:-D

I may drive a classic car to and from the event HQ

Yes, I realised it was an entrance fee to be paid for entering, seems well, surprisingly expensive. Agree the location makes a difference. I'm no more likely to do one of your 40 mile runs than fly to the moon, but those folks who can pound away similar distances on a treadmill "going nowhere and seeing nowt" I just can't fathom!

I read quite a few of your exploits as

Enjoyable joyride... (Something rather over strenuous) ... Enjoyable joyride

:-D but as they say "whatever floats your boat' =D>

A four-mile walk takes me a good half day and that is me finished for a few days.
Couldn't run to the end of the street.

Ditto  Called 'Dreadmills' for very good reason... You'll never see me on one... Tedium on steroids... A cross between watching paint dry and the grass grow... In fact, watching grass grow is more exciting...

I hold the same view about indoor cycling on a turbo trainer... I'd rather be cold and wet out on a real bike on real roads...

One of my girls said that she was going 'spinning' to the gym.
I presumed it was something like the Whirling Dervish dance but more energetic.
But no, riding a bike bolted to the floor.
The epitome of silliness IMO.

My brother, when he lived in London, had some gym equipment at home that he used regularly. Because of the hours he worked it was not often possible to go to the gym, and going for a run was fraught with 'problems' so he used a treadmill.

Whilst I agree totally with the pointlessness of a spinning machine or a treadmill I do see a possible benefit. Use either machine to turn a generator and store the energy produced in a battery pack which can then be used to power the resusitation equipment required at the end of the session!! :-D Better still make proper use of it to complement your renewable energy source!!

Yesterday I took part in the inaugural Fermyn Woods Duathlon, a lovely small and friendly event in a stunningly beautiful wood and country park near Corby in Northants.

I have few photos as all photography, video recording, the listening to music and the carrying of any mobile devices bar a Garmin GPS device is banned under British Triathlon rules.

The run legs took place in the pretty parts of the wood and it was beautifully technical and muddy at times :D

The bike course was a lovely scenic tour on local roads taking in some very pretty villages. The last few miles of road were notable for their very poor surface and some huge potholes  Happily, both I and my bike survived unscathed at the expense of a loss of some earlier good speed...

A lot of Northamptonshire's roads are in a shocking condition.

At the end, I needed to refuel on carbs, caffeine and protein :D

A great event all-round and a very successful one too :D

Lots done today and that included giving both Sally and Pix a good check-over. Due to weather and other happenings it's been a while...

Both are in very fine fettle and no issues were found :D

I gave both a good interior clean as whilst I can tolerate a bit of external grubbiness and shabbiness I can't bear a mucky interior...

Sally's was just that and had significant amounts of Bury Field, Linford Wood, Salcey Forest and Fermyn Woods in her footwell and cargo area...

The photo above does not really give full justice to how bad she was...

Both are now nice and clean. Tomorrow, chores permitting, I plan to give Bluebell a bit of attention and may give all three an external wash and start applying some of that special Auto Balm polish I got a few weeks ago...

A big achievement for me yesterday and although small and insignificant in the big scheme of things, a massive triumph for me, even if it was in Pix!

On Wednesday, quite on the spur of the moment and whilst out running, I decided to go away for the day and yesterday I ended up in Somerset - and drove back home again afgter spending a superb few hours in the company of Alasdair :D

I was delighted I managed it and more to the point, this moring finds me in good condition after a long day..

I completely neglected to take any pictures except this one when I stopped for a vegan egg and bacon McMuffin breakfast near Swindon :D

Huge thanks Alasdair for putting up with me yesterday :D

Absolutely Mick :D

I'm now considering a trip to Wetherby to the Citroen Car Club Northern Rally to show off Bluebell at what will be her first appearance at a rally ;)
