Hi George, desperately sorry to hear of your new problems, particularly with what must be the best riding XM ever. I can't take on another car but if you are stuck for room to store it whilst you work on it/look for a solution then give me a shout.

Hi Derek, much appreciated, thanks, won't be forgotten. I *must* find local storage though as it can't go far -it'll emtpy its expansion tank pretty quick-. Today I've decided I'm feeling like keeping the car and get it repaired/engine swapped at a later, better time, I'm really fond of it. Thing is, I don't want any other car model...

cheers

Hi guys,

Fancy seeing all of you here

Anyway seeing there's still no progress on Club-XM, I was thinking.

(This is a duplicate of a post I made over there)

Well given the length of time the site has been down now, I think this raises serious concerns about long term arrangements. I know that Noz has been told the site is down, but not having access to the server I believe he will be unable to do anything about it without Chris' input.

After this I do believe that Chris needs to reconsider whether he is able to continue hosting the site. It may well be he is unaware it is down, or uncontactable, but maybe we need to seriously look at alternate arrangements being put in place, be that other individuals being given Chris' contact details, or if possible, they (and / or Noz) being given access to the server, so that support could be provided if this happens again.

If that can't be enacted, I believe we should look at moving the site to alternate hosting / setting up a new site.

Anyone concur?

Hi Ciaran

I think it may be worth waiting a little longer before any drastic action is taken, it is more than a little frustrating having the forum down, especialy when you need info but im sure there is a good reason for the forum still being down.
I know you dont see much of Noz or Chris about but then the forum probably has a relaxed feel because of their hands off aproach to running it but i do hope its back soon :(

Hi Dean,

I wasn't suggesting we do anything mad, and I agree there's probably a perfectly understandable reason why Chris hasn't been around, there are many things which come first I'm sure, and I bear him no ill will whatsoever.
My main concern though is the contingency of the forum if such an event occurs again in future, this situation does highlight why its a bad idea to have only one person holding the keys, in case of emergency. For the sake of argument, god forbid Chris got run over by a bus tomorrow, where would that leave the forum?

I just think we need to get some kind of arrangement put in place where Noz or someone else can access the server, but if that can't be agreed to we could find ourselves in this predicament again and again.

It's confined to the BXC and it's not a technical glitch as such Dean. The BXC should be back with us soon.

That's a good question, I've often wondered what would happen if Chris was unable (or unwilling) to carry on hosting CXM forum.

I'm still unsure as to where we stand with regards to the content. CitroJim said that he takes a back up of the forum database every day, but would we be (legally) able to upload it to a new forum (if necessary), or does everything belong to Chris?

As Dean said, it's a bit soon to do anything drastic, but it doesn't do any harm to prepare in case the worst should ever happen.

And at the moment we're completely in the dark as to what's happening.

Such a situation has already occurred with the XM-L mailing list, where the original owner who set it up has been AWOL for a long time, hence we are unable to add new moderators, remove spam, approve new members etc.

Re Club-XM, I believe Chris has already stated in a posting that the site and everything in it 'belong to him'. Whether that means he would be unwilling to release the data to those who created it, I don't know.
