Re: Dean's Activa/XM blog
An XM doesnt need to be fast, its about sitting back, wafting down the road in ultimate comfort and just enjoying the epxerience

Re: Dean's Activa/XM blog
You all make Xm's sound like cloth cap Sunday driver cars!
Try driving a 24v s1 and dawdling...
yes, it will happily bimble along but when it needs to, the bodyshell can be
made into a Continent blaster and a surprising sports car in the twisties so
the chassis is up to the job!
And that belligerent soundtrack is amazing!

Not dawdler cars Andrew, I make good progress in an XM, but excess speed and cornering forces just dont do with the enjoyment of an XM in my opinionandmcit wrote:You all make Xm's sound like cloth cap Sunday driver cars!

Re: Dean's Activa/XM blog
Sorry Andrew but the XM is no sports car,its too soft, too nose heavy with too longer wheelbase and huge frontal overhang, the XM was designed and built to cruise, you can stick as much power as you want in it, its no MX5, not even close.

Re: Dean's Activa/XM blog
OK, I'm suggesting the Xm V6's ARE rapid machines that dosn't feel
quite like the usual barge/matress with castor wheels falling down
a ski slope. No doubt a a Gs will probably be better at handling too
this side of an Activa.

Re: Dean's Activa/XM blog
My V6 XM goes like a stabbed rat in a straight line (Activa is quicker) but in the corners it's good for what it is. I think that's the best way of putting it.andmcit wrote:yes point taken, sports car is a strong description!

Re: Dean's Activa/XM blog
How does that compare to a going like scalded cat? is a rat faster or slower do you think? I ask because a cat can often catch a rat...Chris570 wrote:My V6 XM goes like a stabbed rat
Indeed. I see an XM as a machine built for comfort first and foremost; speed and handling are to a greater or lesser extent secondary considerations but on the barge scale it does score very well...Deanxm wrote:Yes it handles well on the barge scale for a car of its age

Re: Dean's Activa/XM blog
You're not miserable Dean, just not prepared to suffer fools which,
rather unfortunately, is what the world out there seems to be full of!
TBH, there's not a lot of money floating around doing much out there
at the moment and there's a feeling of dread among a lot of folks I
talk to that we've got all Xmas to get through imminently. What's it
called, weak consumer confidence?

Re: Dean's Activa/XM blog
In order to fund my recently purchased XM I had to sell my Saab 9-5 2.3t Vector on an 04 plate with under 89k miles. I thought it was worth close to 2k, but it took a lot of patience and adverts first on Autotrader and then successfully a clasified ad on Ebay to secure a sale at £1650 - nearly a grand less than I paid for it a year ago, and it is now a better car than when I bought it.
Apart from the purchaser, every enquiry I got ,with one possible exception, was a potential scam, which was very depressing. And to rub salt into the wounds, after the sale was complete I discovered a breaker had used my mobile number in an ad to sell bits for a Honda Jizz or something similar!
What I ended up doing was deciding on a price I was not prepared to drop below and steeling myself to patience, after all it seems to be the way the motor trade works. Sometimes it is not possible to take that view, but if you can, a buyer will appear when you least expect it. From initial contact to counting the cash my sale took less than a couple of hours.
I know it is no consolation, Dean, but had the XM not come along I was seriously considering having a go at an Activa - yours.

Re: Dean's Activa/XM blog
Umm, I've found these last few posts rather potentially depressing.
Christmas is the easy one. Ignore it totally. It's what I do and I just wish everybody else would too. I don't 'do' Christmas at all
Or for that matter, any festivals, be they religious or secular.
Ebay and all that: It's just far too complicated. Gosh, you almost need a degree in particle physics just to log on now
Scammers: Those little oxygen thieves are going to be the downfall of this land. There's so much of it going on I can't see how the losses they cause can possibly be sustained. One very simple cure for all scammers of all types and persuasions; shoot the bastards. Then perhaps anyone else temped to do a bit of scamming might think twice..
Also, it would help if certain countries were disconnected from the Internet...
Cheeky sod asking if a Fiat Punto might be considered in exchange
The stupidity of some people really makes you wonder how they manage to breathe. They stop me breathing because it just takes my breath away with the total bone-headedness of it all....
The outlook for mankind is not good I fear... Don't give Global warming another thought and consider that mankind is far more at risk of oblivion from increasing stupidity. I can almost see mankind being wiped out by ever and ever increasing levels of scamming...
