I'm shocked at how a duff EGR is knocking fuel economy Steve  Get 'em blanked as soon as possible or you'll run the world out of fossil fuel!

Try that same milage from a 105litre tank and that will start depleeting the worlds fossil fuels :(

If you go the blanking route your better to DIY if you can with someones help and get the things off and throughly cleaned first as the lsat thing you want is a chunk breaking off and going in the engine. It wont do much damage as the high compression ratio and fireball will turn it to ash straight away but cleaning anything while your in the area is well worth it :)

If you cant use paris autos look for a local landrover place as there are some over your way i think and ask them if they have done any EGR blankings for Disco 3's or Range Rover Sports :)

They may find the space is a bit tighter on yours but the job would be the same :)

Then on about 1/4 tank of fuel chuck in a full bottle of really good injector cleaner to flush the lot out of the fuel system as well and into the engine and out the back :)

Will, I'm not the mechanical type of person, I could probably do it, but If I was doing it, I would go down the route of replacement, rather than block, only because it's then a case of one off, one on. #-o

I'm leaning more towards blocking them off, but, after speaking with my indie the other day, he only did this on earlier engines, and hasn't done it on a newer one. As afar as Land Rover indie's go, I wouldn't know where to start

My plan, I think, is to go and get them blocked off, BUT, if the indie is happy when he get's the old one off, then have the back up of a replacement. 8-[

Well there is possibly a kit that would leave the EGR closed and not report any issues to the ECU if yours is the euro4 engine which apparently is harder to EGR remove than the euro3.

I think if you go for the blocking and keep them you can at least then give them a good soak in petrol to strip all the crud out, then re-oil them ready for reuse one day or resale with the vehicle :)

Will,

Thanks for this, I've managed to track down a replacement for around £170 :-D which is much better than the £261.92 (£314.30 inc VAT) that Citroen want, I can't do anything for a couple of weeks as I need the car. just before it goes in, I'm planning on running injector cleaner through it, to clean out as much c**p as possible, and then I'll do it again once it come out.

It's not going to get done this month, as I just haven't got the time. so it's looking like the beginning of June, I really need it doing as I want to try and make DSM Rally this year, as I've not been to that rally before. Plus I've got my eye on a 'little runabout' that I need to get sorted before SWMBO changes her mind or worse spends the money on something we need..... like plants for the garden #-o

It is =D>

1994 (L reg mk1) One owner from new, full service history, in fact every reciept, 130,000 in White with Black Leather interior, I've been told £700. Now I know that's a little bit over the odd's but given the history I think it's worth the extra. Mark the mechanic who has it in storage is taking me to see it next week.

So while I'm there I'll try and get some picture of the two 16Valvers for you Mark.... :-D

That's the plan, though when I'm not sure yet, at least not until I've had a good look....

Sounds like a potentially lovely car Steve with the history and very rare option of leather too.

£700 might seem a little high for a ZX, but there's not much out there that you can get for £700...

Is it 3 door or 5 door?
