Re: Bargain Basement Electric
Bit like my manual that cleverly doesn't say which bulbs are specified.

Re: Bargain Basement Electric
Yes definitely H13 in the specs but I remove it and find its an H4 , removal in pictures.
Is an H4 equivalent to an H13
...and the bulb says OSRAM BILUX 64193 GERMANY 60/55W H4 U 37R E1 00801 w4v5

Re: Bargain Basement Electric
Looks like its going to be an internet thing for the H13, over the counter at TMS Motor Factors over £42 for one, and none of their outlets within 70 miles have any in stock, but can get them next day. ECP and GSF have no H13 bulbs listed at all.
Having just discovered the removed bulb was an H4, and the car passed its last MOT. This is the exact bulb as removed price under £5...
The plot thickens tried the local former Nissan dealer and the chap from the parts dept was very helpful. The spec for the H13 bulbs has been superseded and it's now the bog standard H4. Seeing as he was helpful the Falcon is going to pay over the top for one of his genuine Nissan H4's but under a tenner still. I like politeness and helpfulness to a degree where just occasionally I park my natural skinflint-ey-ness.

Have you tried the dealer Neil? Unlikely to be cheaper but you never know.

See the post above did just that, and found a twist in the tale.

Re: Bargain Basement Electric
H13 is a US spec, Powerbulbs thinks it should be H4, so I suspect if you look in a UK manual it will be H4.

Re: Bargain Basement Electric
My understanding is that the H13 bulb has the low beam filament located differently relative to the main beam filament, this was to meet USA federal lighting regulations. The visible effect is that an H13 bulb (low beam) illuminates the lower half of the reflector, giving a bit more light output with a lot more glare. The H13 does not comply with European lighting rules.

Re: Bargain Basement Electric
Thanks for those extra's Mike. My initial fixation on the H13 was because, whether deliberately or not, the printed owners manual which came with the car didn't have the "change a bulb"/bulb specs section in it, and the first manual I found on-line was USA. Subsequently, knowing what I now know, I haven't been able to find on-line an official Nissan leaf owners manual which has the European H4 bulb specified. Seeing as the bulb I removed was exactly the same as the new "Nissan boxed" H4 from the NIssan garage, I think it has a decent chance of being the original factory supplied bulb. My Leaf is one of the early "made in Sunderland" Leafs (black interior gives that away!)xantia_v6 wrote: ↑17 Nov 2023, 08:24 My understanding is that the H13 bulb has the low beam filament located differently relative to the main beam filament, this was to meet USA federal lighting regulations. My owners manual is similar and I think my Civic was born in England too.NewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑17 Nov 2023, 08:41 My initial fixation on the H13 was because, whether deliberately or not, the printed owners manual which came with the car didn't have the "change a bulb"/bulb specs section in it, and the first manual I found on-line was USA.
No mention of which bulbs but it does show how to change them. Applies to many things, oil spec being one. I had to buy more oil for top-ups, it gets through a couple of litres a year. Very vague specs, looks as though anything will do. I was a bit surprised that it was £28 for a metric gallon.
Info on tyre pressure monitoring/resetting and many other things missing completely or in American. Why a European model should have an American handbook baffles me as I'm sure they weren't exported to the US.
Reminds me that I should reset the clock to GMT. One day.

Wait until the end of March Steve and there'll be no need... It's what's likely to happen with my AX...
