Or the Visa even better!

I had a Visa 17RD, that rolled quite a lot, admitadly, not as much as a 2cv or R4, but it rolled... I got used to it and go into corners knowing id get out the other side!

they are only likely to come a cropper if the suspension is not adjusted corectly,

like tar mec raccing they wind the suspension down as far as it will go = no suspension at all,

then they flip quite easy,

citroen used to say if you could roll one they would give you a new one,

I can testify that a 2CV is very hard to turn over, I learnt to drive in one and spent my college years driving it around with youthful exuberance. According to my engineering tutor I had it on two wheels coming round a very sharp bend leading into the college when I was late one day. But never ever got it close to rolling though. They do grip very well in the dry but in the wet it's a very different story. This comes from personal experience of parking mine bonnet first in a tree at the side of a road and spending several days in hospital one rainy night. Wasn't speeding and had an off duty police officer who was walking his dog at the time as a witness. Which was nice.

On the milage front I've just seen 87777 roll round on my 97 2.1TD XM.

Back to the mileage - Xsara now on 287,500 miles.
XUD engine can still push it past 110mph (holiday in Germany this summer)
and is as sweet as.
Original head gasket, injectors and Lucas fuel pump. Nowt more than regular oil changes done.
Sills getting weak though, and the back axle is groaning, so tyres rubbing wheel arches will come soon.
It's been a fantastic car for my 100-mile daily commute. Reliable, simple to fix, and cheap as chips.
Everyone I know hates it and thinks it's sh*te. Which means I keep hold of it :D

Couple of Merc 190s
2009 petrol Focus
1998 Xsara TD, 293K - gone but not forgotten.
205s, 405, ZXs all loved and crushed.

Being a Late last line XUD, id expect an original headgasket, as I think PSA started fitting laminated gaskets from around 1997 to them as standard...

Any older XUD with a new headgasket should now have them fitted as they dont do the older type any more, and they do last much longer.

As I said above, taxi man had a T plate xantia XUD which got to 289k and is still going, but in a retired job now.

My 2000 Xantia HDi has 200k on it. The 1992 205 Gti 1.9 I got in 2006 had 187k on its petrol engine then but it had been thrashed and abused a lot sadly, which is why it now sports a 1.8 TD unit.

Admittedly an old thread, but interesting all the same! :D

I found out yesterday that a friend of our's MARK 1 (!!) BX 19RD has covered a massive 308,000 miles and it's still on the original engine. :o

Actually Frankin, Id expect it to be..

The N/a 1.9 XUD with square ports are the strongest and BEST setup of the XUD... as it was originally concieved..

308k is very good... Im hoping my Taxi Man will see 300k in his HDi Xantia this year!! It was on 255k last month...

Whilst doing some taxi driving a few years back I ran a 1.9td Xantia to 240k then sold it on to another driver who ran it for another year or so , it could well have been knocking on the door of 300k+ and it ran like a dream, my mechanic said it drove better than some with 50k on !

My N plate 96 xantia"scabby" only has 197000 on the clock but still pulls well.
I must admit to only doing 15000 of them in the 14 months owning her
Pushed the old girl upto 95 mph a few weeks back .
This was only done as someone had past me at an alarming rate and wanted to see just how fast he was going, but he slowed down as i was catching him "git" .
Might be moving the engine over to a newly aquired dispatch van as i cant find an engine for it  .

I like this thread, shame it doesn't get used anymore (apologies if we're not supposed to bump up these old threads  ) No doubt all the aforementioned cars have clocked up some milage in the mean time, i should imagine most are at least still lurking about in a garage somewhere if not being used. My own Mk1 xantia (1.9TD) is still some way behind most cars on here as it's only just past 163K.
Music keeps me going.
