Yet a bit more work on the car today, mainly brakes and handbrake. The pads and discs appear to have been done very recently, still shiny and silver with no wear but the handbrake wasn't holding very well and was pointing at the sky, so further investigation and the cable is broken in three places on the passenger side but appears to be ok on the drivers side. How did it pass it's MOT?
New cables ordered and will be done over christmas along with the clutch, as we have been offered next doors workshop with lift for a couple of days. In the meantime will leave it in gear when parked.

Just a few more repairs yesterday. Aidan swapped out the radio and found bare loose wires behind it, just a fire waiting to happen, the radio's plastic clips were damaged where somebody had taken it apart not very carefully. He was only going to put a new bulb behind the heater controls so I could find them in the dark, fortunately I have been driving these for the last few years and wasn't having much of a problem. The plug was damaged, so back to the 1.9 for the correct one and a little soldering and insulating sleeves and hey presto all ok again.
Suppose because of the negligible value of the car, professional repairs were out of the question so just a case of keep it running as long as possible.
Personally I prefer to put safety first. Oh and by the way I invested in a fire extinguisher which resides in my footwell.

We had put off doing the clutch for as long as possible because of conflicting reports of DMF no DMF, however the clutch slipped so badly last weekend that it was a struggle to get it home.
I can now report that it is NOT a DMF but an ordinary 3 part clutch but still took hours to do. I nearly stalled the car when I took it for a drive, the pedal takes so low instead of releasing when my knee is nearly under my chin. It is also very quiet in the cab with the noisy thrust bearing replaced.
Interestingly with all the old clutch parts removed, the thrust bearing looked like the original one, rusty, grinding, the fly wheel was cracked through one of the vanes but the pressure plate was in very good condition, hardly any wear. It nearly appears as though it had been somewhere for a new clutch and only the pressure plate was changed!!!!!
We also bought new rear spheres from Doug at Westroen which also helped with the ride quality.
All in all a far better car than when I bought it.

Oh Frenchy! I wish I had have seen your posts before about the clutch on this. I've had my head in the sand I'm afraid as I've had a lot going on.
It's probably not a bad thing that you change it before it went completely as it was impossible to find the clutch hydraulics for WarHorse when mine went.
I bought it way back in 2012/2013 to save it from being scrapped for only £200 and it had 163k miles on. Clutch was slipping but on the drive on the M11 back I simply dipped the clutch, maxed revved it and flipped my foot off the clutch. Rinse and repeated and few times and the clutch was as good as new. It lasted until 196k from memory or thereabouts and around 4-5 years but when it went I had to use a Peugeot 406 Hydraulic System which I believe sits on the other side or I bought a LHD hydraulic system so my reservoir sits upside down.
Anyway, hopefully the car is doing well. I think it must be around a year since you bought it.
