Could there be an air leak in the fuel line allowing fuel to drain back to the tank a bit?

A quick test for this would be first thing in the morning to give the squeezy hand pump in the engine bay a good dose of, err, squeezing before trying to start the engine for the first time that day.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Those engines are usually bombproof, problems are unusual although I have had to scrap the one I had with air in the fuel problem, I think its the high pressure fuel pump and it needs a clutch as well.

If its getting fuel OK I can only suggest that you check the compression figures as it should run. If you spray easystart/carb cleaner or any other volatile liquid direct into the inlet manifold (just take the hose off) it should fire and possibly run for a few seconds, if not I have no idea I'm afraid

Did that first time the problem occured (I thought the same as you)...no air in fuel...pump is stiff after first squeez
