I am really struggling to lever one of the cables of ball joints on the engine side. One had already cracked and come loose, hence the replacement, but the other won't pop off no matter what I do. I can get spanners of assorted sizes under the cable but it just won't pop up. I have tried a rocking side to side, levering down and up and also tried locking pliers and twisting/rocking.
My next step will be to start removing the fuel filter and other bits and pieces that are reducing access.
Wish me luck!

Re: Help required Identifying what 207 gear linkage cable
The old gear cables had a cap on the ball joint fitting that needed to be popped off before they could be levered off the ball joints. Once that was done it was a relatively easy job to remove them.
However the new cables have a different cable stop fitting at the gearbox end to the old ones and I made the mistake of attaching the new cables to the gear box before checking it would all work.
I now need to carefully remove the cables from the ball joints, get the cable stops to work and then refit the cables...

Re: Help required - 1.6 hdi gear linkage cable stop fitting
I am currently stuck at a critical step - mounting the cables in the cable stops near the gearbox.
The original OEM cables had cables stops as per the first image below, while the aftermarket has cables stops as per the second image. From what I can tell both types are common on this engine and gearbox, but for the life of me I can't get the cable stops to mount in the receptacle correctly. The receptacle is white plastic and seems to have multiple grooves each cable stop unit could fit into. Hard to describe - and even harder to take a photo of! It does look different to the images below.
Any tips? The cable stops have spring fittings (arrow a in 2nd image) you slide to the rear of the car while lifting when removing but no matter what I do I can't get the cable stops to slot into place.
Marc, or someone else on the admin team, are you able to post a schematic of the cable stop mount on my vehicle? (VIN VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff])
Thanks

Thanks Marc, it’s that item 6 in the first image. I’ll keep trying slightly different positions and combinations.

I'll write up the gear control adjustment guide for you - check back in 10 minutes and I'll pop a link up for you. It may help with adjustment.
Ok, so link below to procedure:

Re: Help required Identifying what 207 gear linkage cable
It turns out that there is an extra bracket required PE-243781 when using these cables according to a Peugeot dealer I dealt with today. Of course there are no new ones in Australia, so it is ex France, or I start phoning wreckers again....
Marc or another admin - is there a procedure for how this part 243781 attaches to the gear box? It seems to bolt on to the gearbox casing, but then there are ball joints and I'm not clear what these are for.
Pic below.

Re: Help required Identifying what 207 gear linkage cable
Hi
There's no such part number (243781) for your VIN, but there is a bracket as shown below:
(6) Bracket, part: 2437A8, so a different part number if this is what you're referring to, £81 in the UK and still available on parts.
One shown here on the bay of evil, which will at least give you a few pictures - similar price.

Re: Help required Identifying what 207 gear linkage cable
Interesting. The advice came from the parts dealer.
Part 2437A8 appears to be what is currently fitted to my car and presumably needs to be removed and replaced with 243781. The dealer won't confirm nor deny this (or give any technical advice....)
Does service box have any info on removing or attaching either 2437A8 or 243781? There are 3 bolts from what I can tell but there are also the metal arms that seem fixed - seem mark up attached.

Re: Help required Identifying what 207 gear linkage cable
I can tell you that official parts database does NOT list any such part for 243781. The correct part is direct from Citroen's live dealer database and that is 2437A8. See below:
If there was a superseded / replacement part number, this would be clearly shown as for example item (9), which clearly shows a secondary part number beginning with 'RP' as you can see from the diagram, there isn't a replacement part for item (6), which is the part you currently have fitted and should replace it with.
I have no info on fitting this part sorry.

Re: Help required Identifying what 207 gear linkage cable
Update. One of the metal arms is attached to the bracket and the other is attached to the gearbox and the bracket slides under it.
Old bracket removed removed, new bracket fitted and car is back on the road
