My VSX had the wiring in situ for the electric seats but don't know about anything else.

Actually the point about lower spec models having the right wiring is a good one to consider.

Definitely not standard Exclusive. In fact a very rare option I would think.myglaren wrote:... inbuilt satnav...

I found an old video on u tube for the c5 exclusive it had a screen in the middle of the dash that displays current milage and fuel consumption along with estimated range per gallon of fuel. Handy...

That comes with all three line displays and wiper stalk with button on the end. It's only the LX with the two line display that doesn't AFAIK.

I know the VTR has it, as mine does. I like using engine braking with current fuel mileage, as I have seen an apparent fuel consumption of 999.9MPG (on numerous occasions, but the one that got the best comments was downhill at 70MPH on the M1!).

My SX has that and also the wiring for the electric seats was present, only needed a maxi fuse under the bonnet.falling-out-with-my-car wrote:I found an old video on u tube for the c5 exclusive it had a screen in the middle of the dash that displays current milage and fuel consumption along with estimated range per gallon of fuel. Wiring for CD multichanger was also present.

Don't dismiss a base-model if it's in excellent condition and offering excellent value for money...
Perhaps it's just me but base models have a particular charm all of their own and are just as serviceable as ones with all the toys...
Roads are just as crap in an LX as in a VSX and traffic congestion is just the same whatever you drive.

Re: your views please on Mk1 C5 2.0 Hdi automatics please?
I bought a C5 2.0HDI auto new in 2003 and ran it for over 3½ years.
The only problem I had (other than BAD service from my local main dealer) was with the auto box that started dropping drive when cold. It was a simple fix but the main dealer took six goes to sort it out.
This VSX had the basic suspension but was very well built and robust - My only concern was that in town it would be in 2nd most of the time.
The sat-nav was always an option, never a standard fit.
I think (memory not what it was) that even the hatchback had a button in the boot to raise and lower the back of the car for loading.

Does anyone remember the Citroen Visa having a similar device for saving fuel? Only it was a light that changed from yellow to red as fuel consumption increased. These days cars have warnings on the dash for the best time to change up or down a gear. Does no one listen to the engine tone any more?

It was operated by manifold vacuum Nigel...falling-out-with-my-car wrote:Does anyone remember the Citroen Visa having a similar device for saving fuel? Only it was a light that changed from yellow to red as fuel consumption increased.
I remember dad had a vacuum gauge on one of his cars when I was a kid.. It was calibrated in fuel economy indications and made (or branded) by Red-X. I think I may still have it...

Re: your views please on Mk1 C5 2.0 Hdi automatics please?
Ok ive just had a chat with Simon the mechanic at Pleiades and he says the F.A.P system on the later C5's needs replacement about every 80k
and as long as I drive the car hard regularly it should keep the F.A.P clean, apparently they cost about £150 fitted these days
hardly as much as three good spec new tyres then.
It will take me about ten years to do 80K.
by which time I'll be looking for another car..........probably.
The Chrysler PT is off the menu as of today Just sat in one and its not much bigger inside than a 2cv
and I own a 2cv already.....I was also disappointed that I couldn't see more of the bonnet.
and that the doors won't open far enough.
and the back seats don't fold flat with the boot.
Didn't get around to starting the engine, what's the point if you don't like it?
regards.
Nigel.

Very important to have a car that feels right for you Nigel and if the PT doesn't then it's no good..
A lot of more modern cars have visibility problems. Makes driving a Xantia feel like you're driving a mobile greenhouse, especially an estate!

Re: your views please on Mk1 C5 2.0 Hdi automatics please?
Jim,
The search goes on for a 2002, 2003, 2004 2.0l diesel HDi hatch or estate c 5
I was trying to get away from estates because of my recent bumps in the xantia.
and C5's tend to be larger than Xantias.
Ride quality also seems to be worse in an estate compared to hatchbacks.
But price and history also has some effect over what you buy I suppose.
an estate might be acceptable if it was an auto.
Nigel.

Before I disappear off into the distance looking at cars
How do I know if a potential C 5 is a 110 ?
