Transponder chip for the engine ecu and locking and unlocking remote plip are two seperate things.. the engine ecu chip is in the key blades circular plastic mould.. its NOT in the plipper or on the plipper curcuit board. In other words the locking of the car and unlocking is a cometely different part to the transponder chip that unlocks the engine ecu.

Disconnect the battery for two mins and re connect it and see what you get then. However if it REALLY has forgotton your key then you HAVE to have a lexia to re sync them together..

ok i sorted this now as ecu connections were a little loose and wiggled the connection block and im all good again...still wont start though...my next question is when the ignition is energized shouldnt you hear a click from the fuel pressure regulator as it pushs against the ball to acheave full fuel pressure? mine is doing nothing :( thanks

No you shouldn't. All you should hear is the pump in the tank running for 5 seconds and the fuel wishing around... thats all

You really could be guessing ages!

Why goto a scrappy, have you tried asking on here, you never know someone could be breaking a HDi Xantia!

It WONT be your pump, you have got fuel to the Fuel rail... So I reckon thats NOT your problem.

Tell me, How long do you crank the engine over before you stop???

yea i know mate :(
trying to do this without a lexia is a real learning curve...even know the voltage coming out of the pressure sensor in relation to the pressure lol!
yea thats true i havent even looked tbh...i will ammend this :)
well i hope not but the flow isnt great i hate to say...pump looks rusty inside :( ( it was second hand off a 306 hdi done 100k ish) and ive done 5k since was replaced
well cranking her over for say 5-10 revolutions say then reddo preheat key on off 3-4 times
im getting about 5+ 'false starts' then i charge the batt bk up indoors before the speedo goes off the clock lmao!

I THINK, if you find a FAR Better powerfull battery, and spin the engine over for FAR LONGER like getting on for 20 turn overs, then tell us what happens!

5 turns is not enough and certainly NOT if your battery goes down that quick!

Honestly!!

well i had a friend give it to me when my last battery fail...it came off a e36 325 and is 72 amp...
it might be me but i try not to crank it too much thinking off the heat produced in the cables so il give it 5-10 spins over and stop for a good say 10 seconds
when i say 5 false starts i mean in terms of 5 x 5-10 revolutions which at max would be bout 50 times (roughly i suppose) but its gonna be knackered soon i guess after all this lol!
be a good idea to try another thou....what about jump starting? would that have same effect?

Yea that would be fine, jump leads dont hurt Xantias like they do later cars!

The problem with jump starting a Xantia is that they don't like it! What can happen is that it causes the speedo and rev counter to flick over to their maximum positions, and it can be a bit tricky to get them back to their correct positions. I don't know what (if any) other problems can occur, and I have only read about the dashboard issue on this forum.

EDIT; Paul has already responded, and (as he is far more knowledgeable about Xantias than I) his information is far more likely to be correct.
