I think its in the glovebox on a C5, there's a kind of blanking cover over it.

Yep, pull off the little cubby thing in the left of the glovebox, there are some fuses and the ecu plug.

eh some of the threads indicate that this chinese jobbo may not work with C5. I hope this is not another case of me having to say "bugger"

Anyone got them working with C5

Looking at the youtube of lexia it kinda looks beyond me and I am computer literate.

That thread is just asking about the new "German" C5. There shouldn't be a problem with C5s of our age - mine certainly isn't.

My Chinese lexia works fine with my C5 facelift. You can do all sorts of scary and fun things with it. Its just too cold at the moment to have a proper play.
Some faults that will show up may not be faults. It may be your car does not have all the relevant bits of equipment. So don't try taking it to a garage just because the lexia shows a fault. Bet the garage are laughing at me.

Isn't there a bit of a sequence attached to connecting it to the plug, booting the computer, starting the engine and waiting for it to communicate?

I boot windows (in parallels as I am mac bound), plug in lexia to computer, start the lexia software and it should find the dianostic box straight away (sometimes it doesn't, think that may be the parallels software being silly)
Once in I can connect the other end to the car, proceed. The software tells you to turn the ignition off and on and once you have told you have done so, it reads the computers fine.
I've not had to start the engine except when it asks me to. No problems so far.

If you havn't done already, I would try a different air flow sensor MAF, I did as i was having power problems, also ESP/ASR and anti pollution faults, I tried one off another car and straight away I knew mine was U/S, any way new one arrived today, it is now like driving a new car and ESP/ASR and anti pollution faults have dissapeared.
I am going to get faults off ecu read and see if it is coming up with same ones as last time whilst it was running bad.

Well got my new toy that I don't know how to use. Just spent 40 minutes installing on laptop only for it to tell me it needs XP. USually it tells you this BEFORE installing and jeez what a time it took.

I thought I may have gotten away with Windows 2000. Bummer! Now have install XP.

After which voila.

Noticed car is way worse than it was when it went into garage ( I nearly never made it up a small hill when I brought it back)while other one which went for MOT absolutely reeks of burning when it didn't before.

Anyway Lexia in North East Scotland for now.

With LExia is it possible to bugger settings on car if you are just loooking through options. I read this somewhere?

Definitely! Just be careful and be prepared to take a step back.
