Agreed. I suppose I could be described as the loopiest repairing my ECU instead of buying one on Ebay for £16 delivered. 🤣

Hi lads cleaned the oil off the back of the engine. All good I think. It looks like the turbo was full of oil though, hopefully not so much that it ran on it. No smell of burnt oil off it though. I'll do a leak down test on it tomorrow and pull the old engine if it passes I have the old engine disconnected anyway.

Thanks Matt. Well it's supposed to be dry until Tuesday so I guess we'll see. I should be able to get the swap done tomorrow and then just connect everything up tomorrow and Sunday 🤞

Hi all, I'm revising my timeline there's too much to get done in one weekend I would imagine next week in the evenings and the weekend I should have it up and running.engine is disconnected but still have to drain gear oil and remove driveshafts to remove them as a unit. I find it easier.Smoke tested the new engine and all looks good no valve leaks. A small bit of leakage past the rings but this is normal as they never really seal 100%. I didn't detect any smoke coming from the coolant system which should mean the head gasket is good too.

Ok so engine and gearbox out. removed the loom but haven't swapped it onto the donor engine yet. There are a few differences between them. The donor has a double doseur valve, mine is a single I don't know what the difference is with these. I assume the double is from the earlier 136bhp engine input welcome.. Unfortunately the replacement I discovered when I removed the doseur the plenum is clogged with carbon.i'm going to install as is to see if it runs first, and if it does I will swap my one over. I got the oil cooler and alternator swapped over so a start. It got very damp so decided to leave it around 16':30 as it was getting dark anyway. It was 17:30 again I finished cleaning up. The loom needs tidying as well so will do it tomorrow in the comfort of my home office. I don't want to change much as I want to make sure I'm not introducing problems unknowingly. Sorry no pictures yet I got carried away with getting a done.

Easy to understand the excitement, new engine etc.
re the double doseur valve. On my 163hp it was only a single even though a double was fitted to the car. It was blocked off when the car was built in the factory.
Possibly yours is the same.

Maybe so. I don't think it will make any difference if I swap them.. I just get engrossed in doing these kind of things and forget about the outside world.

Ok so I have transferred the egr, turbo, and pre-cat and oil cooler across to the replacement engine. I have also tidied up the loom and it is now ready to go on to the engine. I need to install the vacuum hoses and solenoid valves and fuel and vacuum pump and injectors..I was hoping I wouldn't have to take the intake plenum off but I can't install the loom without removing it. I still have to do the timing belt and water pump, clutch and flywheel. I still haven't removed the gearbox so a lot of work yet to go.

Edit

I then have to put the front back on to the car.Just going to relax for the rest of the evening.

Well done Darren,

Slow put sure progress, also it will allow you thinking time away from the car when you stop.

Thanks Kenny, Yeah slow and steady making sure everything is as good as I can make it. I think I am going to over shoot my new timeline as well. I bought parts but they are only dispatched from Germany I think today, so will probably be next week before they are here plenty to be getting on with though. A bit of time to think is a good thing. I bought them over there to save a few cuid and they are genuine parts so guaranteed fit.
