I was extremely Peed off to say the least, but the saving grace was that 'showroom shine' product that you may have seen advertised. I use it 2 or 3 times a year - it's the stuff you can clean your car with, without using water (not that I ever put that to the test!), but the Carnuba waxes and other stuff make it really easy to wipe off crap once it has been treated. If I hadn't had that on, I think it would of ground into my paintwork and taken that off. I am now looking to get one of those dash cams - have put it off for ages as I hate any third part gadgets and other rubbish cluttering up the dash - but I think with all the maniacs out to get you, I may have to think otherwise!CitroJim wrote: That's awfulThe car was clearly a lot bigger than her ability to drive it Marc... The H6W are not my favourite bulbs - they are also used as reversing lamps on some C5s. Horrible long things. I recall I replaced these on my Mark II with an H6W LED equivalent - again as it matched the crisp white colour of the Xenons and were much clearer than the standard yellowy light output of the original.Hell Razor5543 wrote:It depends on WHEN they failed.

That is a good testimony to the effectiveness of those treatments Marc, a nice save!
I've been thinking long and hard about a bike cam... It would be interesting, and not a bit frightening I fear, to review the footage and see just how close some vehicles get in their desperation to get past at all costs...

I wish they had been out a few years ago and that I had one, when a young bull got out from some farm and went charging up the lane. I had my first XM at the time. I pulled over and switched the engine off so as not to scare it. It was about 50 yards away, with the farmer and some other person trying desperately to get it to go back - but instead it came head on to the XMs bonnet and mounted it! I was seriously ducked under the dash at this point. It completely crumpled the bonnet. When it came to making a claim the other individual (obviously known to the farmer) turned hostile witness! Said that as I had my headlights on it scared the bull! I don't drive with my headlights on in the daylight. So they got away with it! No smartphones in those days either. I was comprehensively insured, but had to pay a large excess!

I take it the tarmac now has ripples in it, from where the tyres dug in?

Jim I'd say just by one for yourself. I've had a CCTV camera in the cars now for a while no journey goes unrecorded. I'm also thinking about one for the rear of the car for those tailgater's At 70mph. I've got the RAC camera not the cheap one it cost just over £110. Its brilliant. I'll post the model number later I'm doing my bit at the parents at the mo.CitroJim wrote:That is a good testimony to the effectiveness of those treatments Marc, a nice save!

It was a deserted dual carriageway to the airport at 03:00 He just pulled out in front of me from the layby.CitroJim wrote:Impressive...myglaren wrote:I 'exercised' my emergency brake assist at 100mph and was extremely impressed. The one very near-miss I've had in thousands of miles of cycling was courtesy of a bone-head in a Land Rover 'penis -extension' Vogue type thing.
That vehicle seems to attract them. Many seem to be driven with attitude - a bad attitude
I pulled out into lane 2 and so did he - no reason as the next turnoff - to the airport - wasn't for another mile or so.
He should have seen my headlights - but clearly hadn't looked, assuming there wouldn't be any other traffic.
He was severely startled when all my lights started flashing a few feet behind him.
We both learned a lesson there, hopefully - me how very good the C5 brakes are when called upon - him how to phone friend to drag him out of the ditch.

My Father said to me when I passed my driving test " If you assume that all the other drivers are idiots you will be OK". I think he was right in many ways On a liter note I to have been In a ditch when I took a corner to fast in my bx luckly a nice passer by towed me out again. I feel quite intimidated going from a 90bhp xantia to a 138 bhp c5 so its making me drive more carefully which is probably a good thing
Regards Nigel.ps once had a horse Mount my bonnet that was whey back when I had a 1800 twin overhead cam morris marina estate car. The horse ran onto the other side of the road on a blind bend the Vauxhall vectra doing 60 didn't see the horse soon enough and hit me head on. The likes of Top Gear knocked the morris marina and destroyed a lot of them mine saved my life.

I've found a 'front and rear image recording device' sticker on our 205 GTI has the effect of people dropping back and has put a stop to any tailgating. One of our fleet has a removable towbar which when left fitted does the same sort of thing.

What engine was that? The 1800s as standard were basically the ohv B series engine.falling-out-with-my-car wrote:... that was whey back when I had a 1800 twin overhead cam morris marina estate car.

Maybe confusion with 1.8TC Marina with twin SU rather than twin cam? It was the Maxi that had 1.8 OHC? IIRC.

That would make sense. TC = twin carb or twin cam depending upon the engine concerned.
IIRC the Maxi had a 1500 and then 1750 both sohc. Lawd, it's so long ago and I used to know all this stuff off the top of my head.
